Hey everyone, I'm checking if upgrading the motherboard is necessary for an unlocked CPU. My current board is an P8H61-M LX.

It varies based on the CPU model. A high-end or powerful processor would make it suitable. The motherboard only handles 2nd generation i3/i7 chips, so I’d lean toward probably yes. For a solid choice within Intel and familiar options (i3-i7 3rd gen), an Asrock Z77 is recommended. Pro3 or Extreme4 are also good picks since they’re affordable for the available boards.

For CPUs above the 2nd generation, you definitely should consider them. If you're aiming for something like an i7 from the 2nd generation, it's a good choice too. With an i5 from the 2nd generation or earlier, it's not essential.
