Hello, I'm setting up a new gaming PC for performance purposes and have a mini-ITX build in mind. The processor will be a Ryzen 7 7700X, paired with an RTX 4070 and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM. I aim for at least two years of reliable use without major upgrades, except possibly storage. Regarding the motherboard, do I need a PCIe Gen 5 compatible board? Will Gen 4 still suffice for NVMe SSDs? Looking forward to your advice.

No advantage from PCIe Gen5 in M.2 slots right now for gaming PCs.

PCIe 4 NVMe meets gaming demands well beyond current needs, particularly because DirectStorage hasn't been widely implemented yet. Gen 5 is expected mainly to generate more heat at this stage. It won't be until we fully unlock the capabilities of Gen 4 that those extra speeds will truly matter.

Perhaps in a few years PCIE 4.0 might no longer be the best choice... but truthfully, if funds could be used more wisely, redirect them elsewhere.

Gen 5 is brand new and runs incredibly fast; it doesn’t need to be a necessity for a gaming PC. You might be able to use Gen 4 instead, since Gen 5 would likely be more expensive.
