I'm 29 years old and have been using computers since 1995. Today I'm wondering if gaming PCs are still useful.

You're right, there are many games that aren't competitive, and not all players who enjoy them actually play competitively.

They are irrelevant in your narrow scenario.
For the broader applications with high refresh rates and resolutions... they do play a role.
It's similar to wondering about sports cars when we already have SmartCars. A niche situation.

The focus has shifted. If most gamers fall into the lower range, the importance of high-end gaming machines may have decreased. The active player base isn't the same as the variety of games available.

Absolutely, I'm an RTS, RPG, and indie gamer. I don't play games like Fortnite, Dota, or Rocket League. It's just a chat, not a criticism of your choices.

there are numerous challenging games with vibrant communities. Those who wish to dive in and get fully involved require powerful systems. BUUUT, a top-tier PC only justifies itself with the games you’d run on it. I own a mid-range machine since I don’t play extremely demanding titles, but I’m comfortable with 1080p high fps.

It wasn't defensive. My usual typing and speaking habits were intact.
I felt my normal patterns, not something unusual.
You seem to be bringing up random numbers without any real evidence, which doesn’t help.

And where do you find those figures? Steam, for instance, clearly doesn't match them. Moreover, you're focusing solely on online, multiplayer, competitive titles—what about single-player experiences? Or non-competitive ones? Or games that don’t need constant online access? Also, analyzing active players isn’t very effective for single-player titles, since players often switch between games and don’t stay long enough to indicate demand. Even if not everyone plays every game 24/7, there’s still a need for powerful PCs to run those games.

The 4K medium appears significantly improved compared to the 1080p ultra version.
