Do gamers on an HP Gaming 15 laptop feel like they are playing? Is it okay to ask?
I have this HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop (model 15-ec1) and it's been fine for almost two years. But recently, things have been acting weird. It feels sluggish when I switch between tabs, and even worse is gaming—World of Warships used to run smoothly on high settings, but now barely runs on low at just 30 fps. Also, the fans are not spinning very much anymore; they only move occasionally in bursts before stopping completely. I checked my antivirus (McAfee), updated all drivers including BIOS, audio, and graphics (GTX 1650), even did a fresh Windows install. Nothing seems broken except for the RAM, which has been upgraded to 32 GB. Do you have any good tips?
Hey there! Maybe your system is full of dust and the fans get stuck, so they don't blow air right. That makes the computer slow down (throttle). Also, are you using The HP Gaming Hub? You could turn it off to see if that helps. It can cause some problems though.
Hi, I've cleaned my fans pretty well but not taken them off because I don't know how to do it properly. I also wiped down the vents too. It's weird though since the laptop doesn't feel super hot like usual when I use it. Just started happening recently, about a week ago or so. I'm running antivirus scans just in case that's why it's acting up - right now using Microsoft Safety Scanner and checking if McAfee is broken too.
Here is a simple way to do it on your computer: Try running the "System File Checker" tool on your Windows laptop by typing "sfc /scannow" into the search bar in Microsoft Windows. Hit Enter, let it finish, and then check if any of those system files got fixed or not.
Hello, sorry for taking a long time to answer. I finally got this working on Friday - it worked like a dream. I had an update on my audio driver that didn't warn me about the problem, and saw some posts saying there was a chance this could be causing issues too. Also, I had an outdated GeForce GPU driver, so I downloaded it and installed it. It all went smoothly. Fans were working fine, and FPS in games were where they should be... then I turned it back on today to see what happened exactly. It's right where I left off before, with the same problems. Running SFC now just to check if there are other things wrong too. This is going to drive me insane, you know?
