I keep getting this weird problem where my computer's light turns white for a few days at a time and the screen goes black. If I shut everything down and restart it, all works fine and there is nothing wrong when I use the PC normally. I searched the internet but couldn't find anything like what I have here. Just lots of people having no boot at all. I hope this is just an error somewhere, but any advice would be great since I don't know how to fix it. My PC is set up with an MSI motherboard and a specific CPU and graphics card from different brands, plus some RAM sticks and a power supply unit that says it can handle 80 watts.

Hey, what's your BIOS version for that MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE WIFI ATX board? Did this problem show up only when you swapped out some RAM sticks? What kind of cooler do you have on the CPU in your PC? How hot does it get when things start going wrong?

The BIOS version on my computer is E7C79IMS.1D0, and it was built back on August 27th, 2023. I am hesitant to change this because I have heard bad things happen with this specific motherboard. Also, I do not have any spare RAM sticks to test with. My cooling setup includes a Corsair H100x cooler and five 120mm fans inside the case. Since the PC does not show up on my monitor when it tries to update, I can't see the temperature numbers for sure, but I guess the temps are probably around 30 to 40 degrees Celsius just like they usually are.

DoN't PaNiC but it's a bome. or was a bome until GB mitigated the issues by... 'According to Gigabyte, the problem was due to the over power protection high setting, which was lowered in the new models. Unfortunately, there is no way to distinguish the new production P750/850GM units from the original ones.'. Well considering it hasn't blown up maybe it's a newer version. Either case wouldn't be directly linked to your dram light. A search suggests this is an old known glitch with z490 chipset boards and hi performance memory. The timings don't look super tight on your corsair vengeance but we could be talking relative terms here for all we know there could be dimms out there that are even looser that makes loose look good sort of thing. Neither issue is easily remediable - less you wanna spend the rest of your life learning memory timings and/or testing dimms. Switch psu because 'the dark side clouds everything'. Switch mobo involves search for mobo that doesn't have that sorta glitch. Off the top of my head, don't know precisely. Some might say bios updates mitigate memory compatibility issues. A search suggests updating the bios worsens matters since the problem was never completely resolved by mobo manufacturing technicians. Ah Witcherses. Say one things. Do two things sometimes. Three things. Hear something? That's the sound of everyone running away from this

Thanks for the advice, I'm definitely going to change the PSU soon even if I get one that's safe just to feel better. I've already updated the BIOS. Most people with my motherboard model say they can't boot at all, which is weird because I can. Do you think it would be a problem to keep using this motherboard? The DRAM light still shows up every day about 80% of the time. But nothing seems wrong after I reboot or while I'm using my PC. I'd rather not swap out the motherboards as long as possible since data processing is tough. Also, I should mention that my PC has hit the floor twice since I wrote my original post, so maybe that hurt the motherboard and caused the problem? Finally, a new issue: my HDD makes strange noises now instead of beeping or failing sounds because it happened before.

Try moving the ram back into place and cleaning the slots with alcohol. (Make sure your computer is turned off for this.) It might be because your power supply isn't giving enough power or the cpu is having trouble running DDR4 at 3600mhz. You could try a memory test like TestMem5 on high speed, or even just use Windows Memory Diagnostic to check things out. Keep tapping your fingers on the keyboard for a long time while you do this. The TestMem High Speed version is super fast for a quick scan. If you find memory errors, there isn't really a simple fix here unless you loosen the timing settings or drop down to 3200mhz. You might have to try different things and learn about memory timings, which could take quite a while though.
