I think they work well, but I've never tried any with a Wi-Fi connection.

yes, they use the exact same operating system and get the same updates just like iPhones do.

You can feel great knowing they don't act like iPhones because you must manually download updates, so they won't update themselves by themselves. Also, you might need different files depending on your hardware even though the OS version is the same. These devices are complicated to use and although they have a screen for typing commands, many people prefer using that command line instead of the normal menu system. Some features only work through this line, but technically you could use the screen first if it were really blank. It looks very much like commercial routers and has tons of useful stuff most people will never actually need to use in a home setup.
