Received a new server setup last week with solid specs. Dual Xeon X5460 processors at 3.16 GHz, 64 GB RAM, 8x8 DDR2, and a fast FB drive. Just need to install Windows without the server OS since it's costly. I plan to use an RX480 by next month. Inputs would be helpful.

I plan to install Windows 10 Pro. Purchase it for $200 or opt for an unactivated version.

You chose a server over using the Server OS because you had specific needs that weren't met by the operating system alone. You plan to use it for your intended purpose, and you're looking at how to make the most of it.

server os's are rarely required at home. an active directory 1000 core license isn't necessary. if you don't need it, windows 10 will suffice. he purchased the server equipment mainly for its low cost on ebay.

I secured it at a government surplus, but they removed the SAS drives. I need assistance recreating Linus's 8-core dual Xeon setup.
