It's not what it was intended to be, but it's how things are now. I might be surprised to be honest—maybe some small fixes here and there (such as the wall problem mentioned), but don't expect big changes.

It seems the meaning of "beta" release varies in gaming. I wasn't up to date on it, but I thought most developers followed standard cycles. I hope more players are participating as testers and helping fix issues.

It used to be the way you explain it, but lately it's mostly just a fancy timed test with the extra chance to observe server performance under pressure. In reality, the main real beta activities these days are limited to closed testing phases.

It's disheartening to hear that. This likely accounts for the frequent large updates released right after a game's release.

I’m not sure if you tried The Division beta, but I know it’s very limited in what you can do—both in terms of locations and game features. If it’s a real early test, it probably isn’t very helpful.

Did the driver update work smoothly? I experienced minor problems with both closed and open beta versions. Sometimes the frame rate would drop, or a cursor would appear on the screen, but clicking left-hand keys would clear it.

Some games still honor a true beta experience where users input is taken into account and bugs are subsequently fixed, but, generally speaking, you're right - they generally serve more as a demo in todays time. Battlefront comes to mind, in more recent AAA releases.

performed perfectly without any issues at all. The graphically intensive settings are fully utilized. Is there anything else you'd like to adjust in the dark zone?

Absolutely, many early access titles still respect their fans, while most major AAA games have changed that approach.

Beta didn't cause any problems, but it might be because I was playing a different strong game (Black Desert) rather than the one I was supposed to play.
