So far the x299 Tuf and 7900x make a solid setup. I ran the easy tune in the bios and got a stable 4.6ghz, which has held up well under my custom loop. I've tested many benchmarks. My main worry is power consumption—I have an AX860 and with the 1070 that's fine now, but I'm planning to get a 2080ti soon. I'm concerned about whether I'll be pushing it too hard.
Pushing it is open to interpretation. Modern multicores won't face problems when reducing performance, and the 2080ti will behave similarly, ensuring smooth startup. The main concern shifts to whether their combined TDP can handle full load. I don't expect trouble, but you'll need a wall wart power meter to confirm you're drawing under 650W.

your cpu likely uses around 200-250W of power at its maximum, while the graphics card runs about 300-350W when overclocked. That puts the total in the 70-80% range for the power supply unit. For a gaming cpu, you'd typically want around 100-150W TDP. Running two cards would be pushing it even further.
