Hi, I'm building with the Gigabyte B560 AORUS Pro AX motherboard. This is my first build. I have a seemingly DRAM issue on the red light of the motherboard. Please excuse the mess and lack of some parts, as I've been trying to find the root cause. My ram is a single stick of 16gb DDR4. In this photo, there is no ram placed as I wanted to see if DRAM would persist without the RAM stick, but it still has. Note that some fans are still not installed, as this is an earlier test to see if it'd at least boot up, but there have been no signs of life on the monitor. Here is some information about the build itself, if that would help. This is all from the Dell XPS 8940 that I have dissected, by the way- 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD +1TB SATA 7200 RPM HDD Item number: 400-BIQQ 16GB, 16Gx1, DDR4, 2933MHz Item number: 370-AGFW NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2060 SUPER™ 8GB GDDR6 Item number: 490-BFUF 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-11700 processor(8-Core, 16M Cache, 2.5GHz to 4.9GHz) Item number: 338-BYVU If anyone could provide some insight into anything that may be wrong, I'd be really grateful!
I placed it in the second position and tested all four RAM slots. Edit: I should have noted this earlier. The LED lit up for every slot.
Do you have any extra thermal paste available? Take off the CPU cooler, wipe away the old paste, apply fresh paste, then reattach the cooler. If the cooler isn’t seated properly, it may lead to pressure problems that can affect DRAM or memory. When securing the four corner screws, follow an X-pattern and turn each screw 1–2 times at a time. Continue until it’s firmly tight—avoid over-tightening and exceeding the maximum torque.
Hi, thanks for your message. I understand you've already tried QFlash and it didn't make a difference, so we'll move on. Could you clarify what you mean by a new mount? Are you checking if the existing one is suitable for your cooler? Also, should I suggest using less expensive RAM to test compatibility before addressing the cooler issue?
Quantity matters here. Disturbing the thermal paste makes it unusable again. When taking the CPU cooler away from the CPU, it's best to remove all the existing paste and apply fresh. Applying too much force or applying pressure unevenly can cause DRAM errors.
Thanks for the guidance! I removed the AIO and replaced the RAM with an older one. It started to boot. The graphics card remains the only part still to install. I’m not sure which screw was misplaced, but I think I over-tightened one. Appreciate the help!
