I understand your need, but it's challenging to locate lighter options specifically for media.

I’m not sure why the advantage of watching a movie from your server’s monitor is unclear. A monitoring tool that tracks your screen while media plays can help you see what’s happening, and options like Plex process content on your server before sending it to your phone or other devices. This setup supports streaming, multicasting, or broadcasting to TVs, which is exactly what Plex was designed for. If you’re still using RDP, it’s unlikely to meet media needs because most RDP solutions prioritize low bandwidth and can degrade quality significantly.

I aim to keep my media on a server while lying down on a bed. I’ll use my phone to start playback from the server and display the output on a connected monitor. I want my phone to function as a remote control—something built into some Android devices via IR—but it needs a newer phone and TV for compatibility. I’m not willing to invest a lot, so I’m searching for a software-based solution.

I'm familiar with Plex. I plan to use it. It's designed to send media from a server to a phone, which works well. The media gets converted during the process, which is also helpful. It doesn't turn my phone into a remote control, though that's disappointing. I reviewed your video to confirm, and this is what you're seeing.

It's really helpful to know this feature is available. I'll look into MPC-HC for CCCP support. Having a wireless keyboard helps, but it still uses up a lot of space. Thanks to everyone who helped me understand what I needed!
