Displaying a black screen
I experienced a blank black screen that eventually cleared on its own. The issue began when I connected an HDD to retrieve files, causing unexpected power cycles that resolved after removal. Windows failed to recognize the card and AMD Adrenaline wouldn’t launch. Corrupted display drivers appeared after each restart despite reinstalling them. After some troubleshooting with DDU and driver updates, the problem persisted. Eventually, I booted up using my old HD 5450. When I reinserted the RX 580, it still didn’t work. I filed an RMA for the GPU but was determined to try again. Over the past week, the screen went black four times—two required a restart, others needed a full day off before working again. Occasionally during gaming or while staring at the screen, the issue recurred. I’m unsure what’s causing it and am considering sending it back because if it functions for them, I’ll be shipping it and have been without a computer for nearly two weeks. My inclination leans toward the PSU since it’s outdated and barely meets GPU requirements, possibly due to stress from the HDD. Any insights on what might be happening?
It's unclear exactly what's going on, but damaged files are a likely first step to investigate. I experienced this with an SSD about a year ago. Using the built-in Windows System File Checker can help spot problems and possibly resolve them. If it finds issues and the problem continues, the drive is probably failing.
