Display shows a black or gray screen on the main monitor (ASUS vg27a)
running a dual monitor setup, 2nd monitor is viewsonic and asus vg27a as my monitor. just recently ive been having issues, all of a sudden every fresh start up even though my 2nd monitor works just fine, the main monitor wont work properly and had to turn the monitor on/off before display shows up and i wont have any other issues as long as i got it to work. theres a sequence for every time i turn/off the monitor till it works -monitor brand logo loop(the logo wont finish up) -just black/gray screen -i get fuzzy grey/black screen(not sure if fuzzy is the term) -desktop shows up abit then go black -then works fine (note that for every time i turn/off the monitor the 2nd monitor goes portait so the pc recognizes the main monitor even though its on black/grey screen) never no signal, jst these issues but as long as the display shows up, no other issues as long as i dont turn off my monitor. ive been having these issues for atleast a week now and not sure what the problem is. running on 5700xt with ryzen 2700x/16gb 3200mhz ram/750 watts seasonic
Ensure your cables are firmly connected to both the monitors and the computer. If you have extra cables, test them separately to rule out a faulty one. If the problem continues, try connecting another device with the monitor—such as a cable box or DVD player—to observe any changes. You might also swap in a different monitor to see if the issue persists. After confirming the source is the monitor, check its warranty status. If it’s expired, you may want to buy a new one. Repairing can be eco-friendly, but unless the model is costly, replacing is usually more economical. As for why the monitor acts strangely, possible causes include aging capacitors or a faulty silicon chip. A common issue is burnt-out backlight LEDs, though this shouldn’t prevent you from viewing an image. Let me know if you need further details.
You can always attempt to delete the GPU drivers using DDU and reinstall them, but I question whether this will fix the problem. Why? Since your second monitor is working perfectly. It’s simpler to check the first monitor to identify the faulty device or cable before trying repairs.
This problem often stems from low power or voltage levels. Purchasing an additional power adapter might not always be worth it compared to the cost of a new monitor.
I was clearly discussing a custom power brick. Sure, there are many standard ones available, but their dependability is questionable. Still, who am I to decide? If you need a regular power brick, feel free to buy one.
