Display Ryzen 7 2700X
Display Ryzen 7 2700X
I’ve been improving my PC recently. I swapped the CPU from a Ryzen 5 3400G to a Ryzen 7 2700X. The display hasn’t updated, and the BIOS is fresh but nothing appears. Anyone have any ideas?
The 3400g likely includes an integrated APU, while the 2700x does not; it would require a separate GPU. Without a dedicated GPU, you'll need one and connect your display to it instead of the motherboard ports. Where video output is directed to the APU or onboard chip versus a separate GPU can sometimes be adjusted in BIOS settings. Using a dedicated GPU may help if you reset the BIOS/UEFI.
I have a GPU and the HDMI is connected to the GPU instead of the motherboard. The BIOS has been updated, but it's still not functioning properly.
The exact board you're referring to isn't widely documented, but it likely involves a chipset that handles both 3400G and 2700X variants. Consider checking compatible boards from manufacturers like ASUS, MSI, or Gigabyte.
Occasionally when switching from onboard to a dedicated GPU, the system fails to apply the necessary BIOS adjustments automatically. Updating the BIOS isn't equivalent to resetting it; you'll likely need to revert the board's BIOS settings back to defaults using battery removal or the reset button on the back (if available) and test functionality afterward. A newer BIOS doesn't always fix issues—it can even contribute to problems with older hardware. Additionally, although I'm not aware of any removal of support for 2xxx series Ryzens in BIOS files yet, it's possible depending on your board. Could you share the board type and model? That would help others better understand the situation.
For an HP prebuilt system, the motherboard may not be optimized for the 2000 series Ryzen due to differences in OEM standards. It's best to check the compatible CPU list for your specific setup.
