I received funds and needed more memory for my computer. Attempted to remove the RAM, but it wouldn’t come out. The power supply was active, yet the PC wasn’t running. After unplugging and reinserting the RAM, no display appeared on the screen. Could this mean I damaged the motherboard or RAM? The RGB lighting and fans are working, but they aren’t visible on the monitor. I also tried switching the HDMI cable in and out. There’s a red light coming from the bottom of the motherboard.
I don’t know the exact motherboard model, but I’m sure it’s not the ideal place for a single RAM stick. Check the manual for the correct slot location. A diagram should help, though it might not match your board (but it’s worth trying). Also, unplug the power supply before handling it—some rails stay active even when the PC is off.
When the PSU is turned off, I’d reinstall the original RAM in its proper slots and test functionality. Working with the motherboard while the PSU is active is risky—it can damage components. For gaming purposes, returning the purchased RAM is advisable. Using a single stick reduces bandwidth by half and significantly lowers performance. If upgrading is necessary, choose RAM compatible with your motherboard and replace the old unit with a matching set. For instance, two 8GB sticks perform better than one 16GB stick because dual-channel support improves memory speed.
