I acquired an old GT610 from a friend, and it’s still functioning properly. When I connected it to my PC via ASRock G41-S motherboard and booted up, the fans, CPU PSU, and GPU lit up, but no video appeared from the graphics card or onboard graphics. However, when I removed the GPU and started the PC, using the VGA in the onboard graphics (Pentium E5700), it worked perfectly. Also, note that the video only appeared once with the onboard graphics active, and the GPU wasn’t detected until I accessed the hidden devices in Device Manager.

There were several indicators pointing to a faulty GPU. Even without damage, disposing of it would still be environmentally harmful.

Lol, I can't afford another GPU until the summer. You probably thought GPUs were costly in developed countries—try getting a GTX 1650 in third-world markets, which costs twice some people's salaries. I'm thinking I'll buy an older 1050 since that's what I can manage.

Starting with a fresh perspective: no resentment toward your budget. Given how old this setup is, I don’t really think there’s much value here except as a placeholder for wordplay or as a basic Excel editor rig. Since your integrated graphics still function, I wouldn’t waste effort adding a low-end GPU from the start! From what I understand (and likely others), the 610 model was mainly for systems needing just one video output, possibly with extra connections. Side note: I’m not familiar with Intel CPUs, particularly older ones. Still, I’d guess an 1050 might struggle to keep up with your processor.

On older systems you must enter the BIOS and look for an option to choose which GPU you want to use as your output. There should be one available for both, sometimes. If only one is present and you pick GPU instead of IGP yet nothing appears from the graphics, you need to reset the BIOS to restore your built-in graphics functionality. Find the manual for your motherboard online to learn the proper steps (often just resetting the RESET BIOS pins).

It's only for Excel and Word, but I need to play Valorant on it. The CPU needs to meet the recommended specs, so I'm thinking about getting a GPU.

Yes, I noticed the choice was made for PCI (isn't that the GPU slot?)

Yes, you could use a different connection such as DVI or HDMI instead of VGA if that option is available.

I also tested HDMI, it didn’t work, so it’s likely DVI won’t either. I have a cable or a monitor that works with it.

That's interesting. I wish to locate a free gaming GPU soon.
