Hello everyone. I'm reaching out for assistance. While using specific games on certain engines or titles, my system frequently freezes and restarts. This usually occurs with demanding UE5 games or BF2042. My main rig is the one I use most often while playing. I've tried updating drivers, adjusting BIOS settings, switching drivers, using just one monitor at a time, running only essential programs, and tweaking quality settings. The GPU temperatures and power usage are within normal ranges. Furmark Knot 2.0 GL works perfectly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You're experiencing stable temperatures, right? Does your system only show "kernel power" in the event viewer? If the black screen appears, does your PC restart on its own after a while or do you need to force it off? How long has your power supply been providing power? Just a heads-up from my experience last year: I faced similar problems with my old RX6750XT. My PC would freeze repeatedly, requiring multiple attempts to boot. Eventually, the GPU stopped working after three to four months, but that was covered under warranty.

Only a few events appear in the event viewer PC, causing it to crash, restart, and freeze after the VGA light appears. It’s been happening recently, and I’ve turned off the power to fix it.

There’s no BSOD present, which is positive and negative at the same time. Do you have another GPU available for testing your system? I believe the GPU might be failing gradually. Not connected to BitLocker driver issues—this isn’t connected to the current problem.

I'm checking the setup on another rig with a 1080 resolution. I'll test whether it might cause issues. Regarding BitLocker errors, they seem to occur only during the full black screen process.

This seems odd, but it might relate to the crashing into the black screen. It could be normal, so I’ll focus on testing the 1080 first before looking elsewhere.

Sure thing. I had to work on something Saturday, so I didn’t have much time to test until yesterday and today. Here’s what I discovered: I ran the 1080 under the same settings that usually cause the 6900XT to fail (browser open, both monitors active). During the short testing period, I only noticed a slight slowdown. I disassembled the 6900XT, replaced the thermal pads, and cleaned it up. The hotspot temperature improved noticeably. Everything looked normal until about 90 minutes passed when a black screen appeared. After a reset, the system eventually reached the login screen without a display, and the VGA light came on. I’m still unsure if the problem is with the card or AMD’s drivers. Maybe I’ll try my backup rig to finish the mission.

Initially it seemed like temperature issues were the main concern. You could attempt to DDU the drivers and reinstall them; if that fails, try older or newer versions and see if problems resolve. Before doing DDU, check the Windows Event Viewer for crashes prior to the black screen—look for kernel power errors, warnings, or critical events.
