Hey, here are some ideas for fixing your corrupted external drive. You mentioned trying DiskPart but it didn’t work, so let’s explore alternatives. Maybe try using a different tool like CHKDSK or even a third-party utility designed for recovery. If you can’t access Disk Management while the drive is connected, consider backing up data first or checking if the drive is properly seated. Let me know what OS you're using and I can suggest more specific steps.
There's a small chance its the controller that failed, in which case if its a SATA drive you may be able to dismantle the case and extract the drive itself. That said if its a HDD the most likely failure is bumps and knocks damaging the drive itself, or overheating. So even if you get the drive out I wouldn't use it for anything important.
The issue can be identified by using diskpart to list the drive. The problem seems to be data-related, especially since the old HDD appeared to be failing. I was able to clone the drive onto an external storage and reformat the original drive, which now functions properly. However, the drive later became corrupted. After attempting to remove the damaged files (which nearly led to deletion), it became completely inaccessible. It still shows up in File Explorer as a local disk, but I can't perform any operations on it.
