Hello, I followed up with my uncle to obtain a Samsung SSD. I plan to install it on a laptop that only has one hard drive. My goal is to connect both his new SSD and the old hard drive to my computer using the cables I have, and then clone his previous hard drive onto the new SSD. I was expecting data migration software to handle this, but now it seems limited to cloning the system drive to another Samsung SSD. I’m unsure how to proceed. Do you know any software that can do what I need?

When the SSD is bigger than the HDD, you can use Clonezilla (live CD) to copy the drive and then expand the SSD section in Windows to its complete capacity.

He now has a 250gb SSD, while his previous 500gb HDD is only utilizing 70gb.

You can shrink the partition size for cloning, then grow it to cover the entire disk. When attempting to clone my OS (Windows 7) using Clonezilla, it failed because it only supports MBR, not GPT. I suggest checking out EaseUS: http://www.easeus.com/backup-software/tb-free.html

Purchase an affordable USB to SATA converter and utilize Samsung cloning tools.

Thanks for the ideas, but the solution that worked was simply disconnecting all my drives, connecting his in, and restarting his old HDD. The target for cloning was the main drive.
