I once owned a Windows 8 tablet, and I’ll share my thoughts on Windows 8—this is the only situation where it made sense for me. Back then, I treated my tablet like a phone, but now I don’t use it much since my phone handles everything better. Plus, I can make calls from a phone, which isn’t possible with a tablet.

It shifted into a more professional market category rather than a consumer one. Surface Pro and similar Windows tablets are widely adopted in various businesses.

They've already addressed your query. Their performance was disappointing, similar to how most android tablets have faded out overall, except in niche tasks. They're mostly replaced by phones, which handle nearly everything—calls, photography, and more. That's the reason.

I've always seen a form factor through the lens of its intended use. With the emergence of thin ultrabooks, there was little practical value in a tablet-only Windows experience. They typically came with keyboard covers or small docking stations that included keyboards and extra batteries. For those rare situations requiring nearly 9 hours of battery life—back then and now aiming for around 16 hours—they made sense. However, in most other scenarios they lagged behind a slightly heavier or larger laptop that offered more repairable parts.

From my perspective, MS overpriced themselves beyond what was needed. A simple small touchscreen laptop or a superior Android/Apple device would be available at a lower cost.

The only use I see for a Windows tablet is maybe content consumption, but even then a laptop will do the same thing with a bigger screen. I do think that phone screens are kind of cramped for content consumption. Do you think there is a use for a modern windows tablet anymore?

In specific situations, definitely. I believe it leans more toward business applications rather than casual use. Still, I’m not an Apple supporter, but the iPad is a really good tablet and it establishes a standard for that area.

I would prefer an iPad over a comparable-priced Windows tablet or surface. It serves as a superior device for consuming content, and if I require a Windows machine, I would opt for a complete Windows laptop.

Many individuals use the term "iPads" for tablets, even though this isn't accurate.
