So I began upgrading my PC with top-tier components for future readiness. I verified online compatibility and was relieved to see everything fit. My setup included a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite board, a Ryzen 9 5900X processor, and Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 RAM at 4400mhz. Initially, things went smoothly, which was great. After installing the board and CPU inside the case with a speaker, I proceeded step by step to confirm everything functioned correctly. Eventually, I installed the RAM and placed it in the case. At that moment, I felt satisfied. My next attempt was to enable XMP profiles, but unfortunately, the system didn’t respond properly. After some research, it became clear that AMD’s Infinity Fabric limits most CPUs to around 3733-4000mhz, and both my XMP profiles exceeded that threshold. Consequently, I was stuck running at lower base clock speeds. I’ve never really experimented with overclocking or fine-tuning RAM timings, so I’m essentially a beginner in this area. I tried using online guides and the DRAM calculator to adjust timings and speeds to 3800mhz, hoping it would work smoothly. Given my experience, this was quite a challenge outside my comfort zone. Most attempts to push the RAM to 3800mhz led to instability, and even trying 3733mhz caused timing issues. I really appreciate any advice or support you can offer.
This setup seems a bit unusual and not very logical. It's unlikely anyone has achieved 4400MT on a Zen3 chip. With just two sticks, crashes and compatibility issues are common. You can adjust RAM speeds in BIOS—start with 3600MHz at CL18, since your sticks support 4400CL19. Then try 3800CL18, and if that works, set the FCLK to 1900MHz. Avoid changing other settings initially; DRAM calculations tend to be too optimistic, and tightening TRCs often causes problems.
It should perform similarly at 3600mhz, but likely not as well for the 4400mhz model since it doesn't sync directly with the FCLK clock. Typically, Ryzen processors cap around 4000-4200 stable, and using a lower frequency or adjusting timings can improve results.
Now it's nice to see them in action, I had to go back to my Corsair Vengeance LX 3200, haha!
Check the timing adjustments in three separate areas of the board. Make sure the settings match your expectations.
