I own a 30 series GPU before the Light Hash Rate/LHR announcement and I'm interested in understanding how everything functions. Is this a software driver or a hardware component? I believe it's a driver. Could I remove the driver and use an older version without LHR installed? I usually keep my drivers updated for the latest features.

Hardware and software are involved, and no alternative solution exists right now, aside from dual mining (I don’t know much about it).

They modified the PCIe codes on the LHR cards, which means the previous drivers won't work with the new ones. To mine with your LHR card, you have two choices: dual mining or using a miner that can work around the restrictions. Right now, except for dual mining, users have managed to achieve roughly 70-80% of the standard non-LHR performance on LHR cards.

The card already had LHR installed during the driver update, and there’s no indication it can be fully reverted.

When the card isn't LHR, any changes after LHR don't apply...

The LHR cards differ significantly from their non-LHR versions, especially for the driver. Only LHR cards include the mining limiters, even when using the latest drivers. For example, I own a 3080 from before LHR was introduced. I've been mining it during my downtime since purchasing the full 100MH/s capacity, regardless of the most recent software updates.

lhr appears exclusively on cards that were either sold solely as lhr (ti models and 3060) or cards released after lhr was announced, with the exception of fe cards and any 3090. If nvidia intentionally tried to prevent you from using your card, it would create a major legal issue.

Yeah, LHR cards suck. I only get about 60-70 Mh/s with my 3080 LHR. And to think I had so many chances to buy a non-LHR 3080 for almost normal prices when they first came out.......

Don't worry much, I wasn't aware the 3080TI had a built-in LHR. It started failing about 7 months ago and is now breaking down. I plan to contact the rep or store on Monday (technically today) regarding the RMA. Edited December 13, 2021 by MultiGamerClub
