Discussion on aging parts and latest motherboards
I have an MSI Radeon 5450 in my current setup and I’m thinking about getting a new one soon. I’m curious if this works with newer motherboards until I can afford one. Also, I was wondering whether my older DDR3 RAM would fit in DDR4 slots—though I doubt it, since I haven’t built a computer since 2011 or 2012. Even back then, I managed to get things working just fine. Now I’m hoping to assemble everything and run it eventually. I’d prefer having newer parts compared to what I have now, but I’m not sure how much longer I can wait before starting the build.
The HD 5450 is compatible. DDR3 cannot be used in DDR4 slots—they are completely mismatched.
I’m thinking about whether to buy a CPU with graphics or not. It really depends on what I can find and afford at the moment. Since I plan to get a GPU later, I just want to have what I need right now. Right now, my old machine makes playing games pretty frustrating.
You need to request a build in the builds area. Many experts are ready to assist you there. An HD 5450 is surpassed by any modern CPU integrated GPU.
