Hello everyone, I’m facing some issues after upgrading from the Ryzen 5 2600 to the Ryzen 7 2700X. The older CPU handled Fallout 4 fine, but during gameplay it would overheat and the fans on my Corsair H100i AIO increased a lot. After installing the new chip, I noticed random temperature spikes and the cooler displayed warmer readings—colors shifting from green to yellow and sometimes red. I have three intake fans (two on the radiator) and three exhaust fans. CPU speeds look normal at boost, but it idles slower than expected, around 3.4GHz base. I haven’t overclocked and haven’t changed anything beyond factory settings. I’ve updated BIOS, software, and firmware, even reset everything to defaults, but the problem persists. Anyone have ideas on fixing this? Should I switch to a better cooler or upgrade my case? (I’m currently using a mini tower.)
How long has the cooler been used? If the weather is too hot, the pump could fail (especially if it's aging) or there might be an issue with the pressure setup.
The parts of the entire setup are brand new, less than six months old. Everything came in sealed packaging. I plan to secure the block tightly to the CPU. @JM21 TDP refers to performance under stress. My system will remain idle but may unexpectedly increase power.
Colors are nice, but they don’t clearly indicate temperature changes. Using a monitoring tool like HWmonitor while under load gives a clearer picture of how hot things get. It displays minimum, current, and maximum temperatures in the system. In this build, I’m running at 2700x on air, and it’s actually getting warmer than expected, yet it still functions. Under load, average temps hover around 65-70°C with occasional spikes, but everything remains acceptable. As long as it doesn’t consistently hit 90°C+, it’s fine. Overall, newer AMD chips seem to handle temperatures similar to Intel, tolerating heat without major issues—provided everything else is properly configured.
Yes, it remains a hotter running chip, but performance under load stays similar to idle. This falls within acceptable ranges for an R7 2700x. I recently upgraded from an R7 1700 to the R7 3800x, and both idle and max load temperatures increased, which is expected.
@191x7 made a big difference by securing the CPU block tightly. Spent a few hours playing games and didn’t even notice it through my headset. It’s still a bit warmer now, but not as much as before.
