I’ve discovered what I can extract from my chip through manual overclocking, yet I’m curious how it performs when it runs on its own. My expectations were for 4.5Ghz+ under single-core load, but all cores only reached 4.25Ghz and stopped there. Could there be a PBO setting I should adjust, or is this just a limitation of my X370 motherboard?

They’re usually not designed to support significant overclocking on their cores before the introduction of XT CPUs.

I own a 2020 CPU model, mainly an XT variant, which offers identical core optimization settings but with unique individual core tuning not available on standard R5 3600 units. Using Precision Boost, each core performs similarly rather than outperforming the others as seen in tests.

It's not just about an XT Chip. The XT series is a fresh lineup of CPUs they're introducing. You might attempt AutoOC with the +200Mhz setting and check for improvements, but Ryzen generally has limited space for overclocking, and PBO won't deliver significant gains. Plus, if your cooling setup is poor or you missed out on the silicone upgrade, things could get worse.

All main OC specs remain consistent. XT models are reaching around 4.5GHz at about 1.3V, which seems unlikely. Keep in mind that the date doesn't guarantee performance—2020 version 3600 will surpass 2019 version 3600, but it still represents the lowest Ryzen failure rate in 2020. Expected to perform worse than X and XT models overall. Regarding single-core boosts staying near the factory limit of 4.2GHz, it's possible you're hitting that same ceiling. Consider trying a +200MHz offset as suggested by @Statik; if results don't improve, it's probably normal.

I'll try it out and check the results. However, I'm confirming that the output is consistently around 4.5Ghz at 1.288v, and exceeding 4.5Ghz isn't stable regardless of voltage input.

When reaching that point it becomes logical to use a multiplier OC, as PBO can only extend beyond the factory-set maximum clock speed by 200MHz.

Sure, I understand the confusion about the single-core OC. I can achieve a boost of 4.4, which is only a 100Mhz improvement over my manual setup. That should help keep the CPU from overheating.

Are the non-X, X, and XT models all present together? It seems AMD isn't planning to phase out the X and instead introduce the XT. Using silicon from roughly the past six months, the XT chips would likely offer better binned performance, supporting higher boosts while using lower voltage.

By providing a "guaranteed faster" version, AMD can boost profits over competitors who opt for the XT and switch to the X instead. Of course, budget-conscious shoppers will still choose the non-X model.
