I also shared an update about the audio problems on my MSI B550 Mortar. It was sent for return of the manufacturer's warranty and was declined. They discovered a small amount of thermal paste on the socket, which I was aware of as it can leave a stain after cleaning. Since my memory functioned properly then, it seems the paste didn’t cause any problems. The pins in that area are designated for Memory Channel B, so if my memory was working correctly, it confirms the paste never affected performance. It only slightly touched the socket during a deep clean some time ago. What do you think about this situation? Rejecting an RMA because of TIM residue on the socket? I’d appreciate seeing a photo to better illustrate how minor the stain is! Have anyone else used eBuyer UK for an RMA in similar cases?
TIM in socket is a solid reason to reject and request a return. It suggests they’re firm and may prefer handling issues through a call center rather than offering a solution. Disappointing, but it’s reality. This applies especially to retailers since they can’t recoup costs by sending items back to the OEM with TIM in socket. There’s also a low likelihood this will change your decision if the price is favorable.
They've finally reached me and labeled it as socket damage... I don't think that's very serious. I'll include some pictures once I get the board back so you can see what they're upset about. It's really nothing at all.
