Hi there.
I decided to give the CPU another shot before moving on to a new setup.
I’ve looked through many discussions and tutorials, so I went ahead without hesitation.
I set the frequency to 220 and the multiplier to 16.5, which pushed it beyond 3.6Ghz.
Occasionally it would start up but more often it wouldn’t, claiming the overclocking attempt had failed.
Then I dug deeper online and adjusted the multiplier to 19x, aiming for 3800Mhz.
All other components stayed at their default settings, and after a couple of hours of OCCT, the temperatures stayed under 56 degrees.
I’m using a Coolermaster Hyper 212 heatsink and an Antec 1200 case with good airflow.
My concern is whether I should tweak any other parameters to maintain stability or just wait until I upgrade?
Looking forward to your thoughts.

1.35v --especially with that mobo-- works well. C&Q shouldn't affect this.
If you need to use the system clock, you'll have to remove the RAM divider to maintain your memory performance. For a convenient adjustment tool, consider Phenom MsrTweaker.
Steve_238 :
I just ran Prime95 for about an hour and CPUZ showed my voltage changing with usage. After starting Prime it rose to around 1.35, then it dropped when I closed it. Maybe turning off CnQ would help?

1| Please list your full system's specs like so:
CPU+CPU Cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
2| Is that the 212 Plus or the latter revision(s)?
3| You forgot to touch up on the voltages since that is the power fed to your processor and if the board doesn't have the necessary heatsinks you're going to see a fried computer.
4| You might also want to
look through this

It's the Hyper 212x heatsink.

So I ran Prime95 for about an hour and observed the voltage fluctuations via CPUZ. When I started Prime, the voltage increased to around 1.35, and when I stopped Prime, it dropped. Maybe turning off CnQ would help?

Thanks for the update, Wisecracker.
I've been running it nonstop today around 3.8 [just for gaming or when it needs that boost] and everything is fine. Checking with HWMonitor every five minutes shows my temps staying under 56 degrees, which is great.
My Antec case sounds like a wind turbine, but it's handling things just fine so far.
Is this behavior typical for some CPUs?

It's usually reliable, though it might occasionally vary. On AM3+ you should verify the 'Thermal Margin' from AMD OverDrive (AOD). The 'Blue' setting works well...

Ahh, it's just an AM3. OverDrive can't recognize my chipset, so it won't run.
I've been using this CPU for about seven years now and never done any overclocking. Before considering a Ryzen 3—just gaming at 1360x768—I thought I'd check out the current overclocking discussions.
I've seen some noticeable gains and honestly, I was surprised I hadn't tried it a few years back. Though it might have really extended the life of my old 955.
Thanks again, Wisecracker.
