Discussion about CPU lanes
Hi everyone, I'm having some confusion about CPU lane usage with my setup. I have an Asus TUF Z390 Plus motherboard running an Intel i9 9900K with two NVMe SSDs in two M.2 slots and a GeForce GTX 1070 Ti installed in the PCIe x16 slot. My main concern is whether the NVMe drives will use CPU lanes. I've set up my graphics card in one of the 16x slots, but the CPU only supports a maximum of 16 lanes. Can you clarify this?
SSDs rely on chipset lanes for data transfer. This approach has remained consistent across Intel's consumer devices using M.2 slots.
If uncertain, verify your BIOS configuration. However, if no M.2 option appears, it defaults to using chipset lanes. In your scenario, it seems chipset lanes are active—specifically, up to 24 lanes on Z390, with x1, x2, and x4 available. This should assist you.
