discussing whether to choose AMD or Intel E7500 for overclocking project
As the title indicates, I aim to boost my old PC's performance. It’s an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 running at 2,93 Ghz with 4 GB of RAM. The biggest issue is the motherboard—it’s really outdated (HP factory-built), making high-end LGA775 boards costly.
Another choice is purchasing an affordable AMD processor such as A6-6400K or A46300, or opting for the cheapest AM3 socket processor paired with a new motherboard that supports overclocking.
What are your thoughts? Which option seems most suitable?
Based on calculations, I could get an AMD model with the same MB as a top LGA775 board (around 100 dollars).
Within that budget, a Pentium G3258 could be a solid choice—it performs well and handles overclocking effectively even on certain H series boards.

In that budget range, a Pentium G3258 could be a solid choice—it operates efficiently and handles overclocking well on certain H series boards. I appreciate the suggestion, but if I purchase this CPU, I’d need to upgrade my motherboard as well. This CPU uses LGA1150, so what kind of motherboard would I need to buy?
Here is a simple motherboard that boosts the G3258. It's a bit more suited for the G3258 and its motherboard than the LGA 775 model, but the speed gains are significant.
