Hello everyone, I'm reaching out to check if my plan is feasible. I'm planning to upgrade my old laptop and want to move my information over to the new one. Before doing it manually, I thought it through: 1) Install all drivers for the new PC on the old SSD M.2, 2) Take out the old SSD from the old laptop, 3) Insert it into the new one, 4) Power on the new laptop and install the drivers for the new device on the SSD. In theory, everything should work? Please let me know if this approach can save time when transferring everything to a new SSD. Thanks, Ben

What's the reason? Just install the M.2 drive in the new laptop and it should function, with Windows automatically downloading everything.

It seems like you're expressing gratitude for something. That makes things much simpler than I imagined.

Occasionally, mismatched hardware can lead to problems. It’s best to remove drivers from different manufacturers if your old laptop uses an AMD GPU and your new one has an nVidia.

I’m switching from the Nvidia 2060 to the 3060 Ryzen 7 4800 and then to the 5800. It seems I might just need the software tools for the new laptop to be set up again. I have an XMG Core 17 and discovered a good price on Lenovo Legions 5 Gen 6.

Make the change without concern, only a 0.1% risk of complications

You may encounter issues with BitLocker or Secure Boot when using these functions. Verify your settings to ensure the drive is BitLocker encrypted; if so, capture the key or save it to a USB. Also, a licensed Windows version might initially report your OS isn't activated due to hardware changes. Give it a try—if needed, revert it to your original laptop for adjustments.

Ensure the devices remain in AHCI mode; otherwise Windows may fail to boot. Dell often installs laptops in RAID, which can cause issues. It's wise to download network drivers beforehand, though it's not certain they come pre-installed.

Thanks, I believe my old PC isn't RAID and I'll verify. Switching from AMD to AMD should work.
