Discussing the Windows 8.1 Pro update issue
I've set up Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit on my new PC. During file transfers, the directory became a bit disorganized. I ended up with several "Documents" folders pointing to the same spot, some renamed folders (like the Music folder now appearing as Documents), the Pictures folder vanished, and the left side of This PC looks mixed up. I'm unsure what caused this or if I made any mistakes. I recall the "Refresh" feature can keep documents intact while resetting Windows, but I'm not sure if it fully restores everything or leaves the mess unchanged. Could you clarify if this question needs more explanation? Thanks! @ LabRat @ tmlhalo Your feedback has been really helpful before. I need to confirm my directories are ready for new drives and cloning.
I'm not big on this stuff but maybe the fix" could be simple. What if you right clicked on one of those folders ( pictures maybe ) and went to properties.......... snoop around a little. (drop down )? any help? okay, so I'm a little late. had to try it first...LOL
This pasting likely transferred content. If it was software, the name would be specified. The WD Black 2 drive is still correct. E and G refer to separate drives or external devices.
I attempted to modify the image settings but found no available option. All three document folders appear in the same directory. The Music folder shows no music files, only documents and system files. It seems this issue stems from a previous failure of my WD external HDD. I contacted Microsoft support, who mentioned that the only solution is to perform a system reset via their tools. It appears the System Refresh doesn’t restore the directory, so I plan to back up my computer on a different HDD and then manually transfer the needed files. This should prevent further complications. Anyone have any advice before proceeding?
Consider other ways to resolve the directory problems besides a full system restart.
