Discussing the use of RAM that exceeds a CPU's capacity.
Some DDR4 modules support a clock speed of 2133 MHz, which is the typical standard for DDR4. This explains why Intel includes it across many processors, though it’s unlikely they completely removed XMP compatibility.
I recently did something similar. My setup is an i7 6700, used as a server. I planned to boost the RAM. The combination of my board and CPU allows up to 2133 MB, but I opted for two 16 GB modules at DDR4-3200 for better value. It works fine in DDR4-2133 mode.
