I recently installed a 5600X and connected it to a B550 motherboard. I'm trying to understand its typical performance and temperature patterns. My concerns are growing after some Cinebench R23 tests showed lower scores than expected, along with the CPU not increasing its clock speed as anticipated. In the Single Core benchmark, I noticed my CPU reached a peak of 4.6Ghz twice during the test, often fluctuating between 2.7Ghz and 3.5Ghz with voltage changes between 1.250-1.256V most of the time. The highest recorded temperature was 64°C, but this was a one-time spike and for 99% of the time the CPU stayed between 52-55°C. During Multi Core tests, my CPU consistently ran at 4.1Ghz with a stable voltage of about 1.1V, and temperatures ranged between 55-60°C. I'm wondering if there are any misconfigurations in the settings, as my Cinebench results seem lower compared to others, and the single-core behavior doesn't match expectations. Is it typical for the CPU to vary between 2.7Ghz and 3.5Ghz during such tests? Given that I'm using a 240mm AIO cooler and temperatures appear normal, it seems the issue might lie elsewhere.

I'm checking the tools for frequency and temperature tracking. 4.1 all core sounds are a bit low, 4.6 single core is fine but I'd like to see more consistent performance. Is your BIOS current and have the chipset drivers been installed? Are you using the balanced power plan?

Ryzen handles varying performance across cores, and because of Windows' handling, tasks are divided into threads extremely efficiently. You’ll notice fluctuating clock speeds. I don’t take this too seriously; it seems about 10% lower in multithread testing. Check if dual-channel memory is enabled and confirm the BIOS is up to date. Also verify the FCLK and UCLK ratios—ideally 1800MHz with a 1:1 ratio. Staying within power limits helps, but suboptimal settings elsewhere might hurt performance per instruction.

I don't have that choice for the Ryzen 5000 line. Apparently AMD took it out because it doesn't require it.

Windows balanced or Ryzen balanced. At peak performance it maintains frequencies and voltages at their highest levels, no matter the workload.

It may match memory frequency or be half of it (which equals half the data rate, i.e., the advertised frequency). This isn't accurate. Ryzen adjusts frequencies every 1ms, making it impossible to track all changes with human vision, though the system can handle it. 1.1V is quite low (maximum load voltage may exceed 1.25V if power limits are removed and temperatures remain stable), which suggests throttling is occurring. Power constraints, such as the SVI2 voltage reading, are relevant here—not VID.

They mentioned friends with 5600x chips handle 1.35V across all cores and reach 4.4GHz all at once. It seems 1.1V feels too low for the silicone lottery to lower clock speeds. Observing this, it looks like higher power should allow faster clocks since temps stay under 60°C. Also, during long idle periods, I haven’t noticed temps dropping below 44°C in a room at 24°C.
