Hi, I’m looking for community tips on setting everything up together on one computer. You mentioned wanting network file sharing with Unraid, combining multiple drives under one network drive, and adding storage later. Also, hosting game servers like Terraria, Factorio, TF2, etc., plus a Plex server would be great. A torrent client is needed, but I’m not sure if using Unraid with a VM or another method works best. Thanks ahead!

Obtain a hypervisor and deploy all roles in separate VMs. Unraid could be suitable. I’m more familiar with Proxmox and appreciate ZFS functionality.

There are numerous hypervisors available to choose from. Options include Hyper-V, VMware vSphere, KVM, XEN, LXD, Proxmox, Unraid, Docker, and FreeNAS. The best fit depends on your specific needs. You might also prefer Proxmox and FreeNAS for a more straightforward setup. If you're open to experimenting, KVM is a solid choice. I favor a simple, command-line style without a graphical interface, though remote tools can be handy when required. It's similar to running a Windows server without a graphical front end.

Basically set up Unraid first for handling files, then add Windows Server inside a VM on top. Docker is an app container platform; it runs in its own environment. Yes, Docker works well in Unraid.
