Discussing setting up Windows 10 again.
So i'm reinstalling windows 10 on my HTPC for my dumb brain installed the wrong drivers for Mobo (because my mobo has many revisions) And due to it being an HTPC i have a lot of indie games which is not on steam and it store it's save files in My documants folder. (My games are on a diff. drive from the os drive.) And i was wondring (backing up safe files is not an option) If i reinstalled win 10 i know that my save files would be deleted yes. But will the games work without reinstalling them ? Like would they make another save folder in my docuoment when i open them again ? Or they would be unable to launch ? would they even open without me reinstalling them i mean? Or would they open and be recognized in the control panel and make another my documents folder ? I have a lot of games and it would be shit ton of work to install them all. Thanks anyways guys.
It varies by game; backing up your My Documents folder usually lets you retrieve saved games after reinstalling, even if you restore them.
The game files should remain intact unless there’s an issue with your system or installation process.
I also attempted it. The result is a definitive NO. This was verified with AAA games (GTA 5, BF4).
It varies by game and its launch method. For Steam titles, they usually still need Steam installed. If DRM is required—such as with Ubisoft games—the system must have that enabled. Once you install the necessary components, you typically don’t need to reinstall the game itself. However, you can always back up the installation folder before reinstalling and restore it afterward.
