Discussing PIA's unlimited bandwidth options.
Does PIA's unlimited download support Steam and Xbox games? I need to download many titles but my ISP limits me to 1000GB monthly. I've already used most of that, so I don't want to run out.
Imagine you've used more than 1TB each month with PIA, and you haven't noticed any slowdowns or problems—so you're probably fine. However, this usage will still be recorded in your ISP's data cap, since all the data must pass through them.
I've consumed several hundred gigabytes without encountering any problems. You're still relying on data for your ISP, VPN, and routing through your ISP.
Requests pass through your ISP to the VPN provider's server. The provider forwards it to the actual destination (such as a forum). This masks your IP address since the site sees the provider's IP. The reply travels back to the provider and then via your ISP to you. Every bit of data, including downloads, stays with your ISP. The VPN only ensures encryption between you and them, hiding your public IP from the sites you visit.
They don’t add any extra restrictions. Your entire internet activity must pass through your ISP. Even with a VPN for more security, this remains unchanged. You can’t bypass your ISP’s data limits this way.
Since certain VPN services restrict your internet speed, your ISP will monitor any data transmitted through your modem. VPNs also contribute extra data consumption. I've learned it typically adds about 30%, but that might not be accurate. With a 1.2 TB limit from your ISP, you've checked all options. The only solution to get unlimited is to subscribe to the ISP for unlimited plans.
