Discussing performance at 1080p with the Ryzen 5 7500F is common.
You're considering a Ryzen 5 7500F with DDR5 RAM for a gaming setup. Your current gear includes a 1080p 144Hz monitor, an i5 9400F, RTX 2080, and you're experiencing bottlenecks in most games. The question is whether this CPU can handle the demands at 1080p without needing a GPU upgrade. Since you're on a budget and can't afford a 1440p display, it's likely the CPU alone won't eliminate all bottlenecks. If you're okay with occasional stuttering or FPS drops, it might be sufficient. However, if GPU performance is more important than frame rate, you may need a better GPU. Let me know how you'd like to proceed!
Reduce the intensity of your excitement around the word "bottleneck." Instead of focusing on vague descriptions, consider how specific performance metrics matter. The 7500F offers solid speed with modern features, while the 9400F may have limitations depending on your workload. For smoother gaming, match your CPU's capabilities to the demands of your games.
I’m receiving a bundle with either 16GB RAM at 5200MHz CL60 or 32GB RAM at 6000MHz for additional features. The i5 9400F struggles with demanding titles but performed well with an RTX 2080 a few years back, delivering smooth gameplay—especially in Fortnite. However, Halo Infinite demands full CPU and GPU power, causing consistent stuttering regardless of settings. Even with all ray tracing enabled, I still experience frame drops in other games. Background apps also affect performance, lowering FPS and triggering stutters. CPU temperatures are normal, and clock speeds are maxed out, so the problem likely lies elsewhere. As long as the CPU handles stuttering, I’ll go ahead and buy it; I don’t plan to upgrade the monitor or GPU for a while, since I’m not an intense gamer just seeking smooth performance.
I wouldn't aim for CL60 if it truly represents a massive latency increase. It seems double the delay of CL30 could become noticeable over time, so lower values are preferable—10 nanoseconds would be ideal. Some games actually boost CPU usage more, like Fortnite, and you might not have much control over that. Changing DX11/DX12 settings could help, but it probably won't work for your current processor. A newer CPU might assist, but you still need solid RAM to store apps and assets. Also, check the GPU temperatures; Fortnite is demanding even in esports mode, so high settings can cause issues. For competitive play, it's better to lower certain settings to maintain smooth FPS and avoid frame drops when matches stall. In Epic Games Fortnite, enable download streaming for assets—this forces downloads but prevents them from loading while playing, which is the default behavior.
The RAM is CL30/36, I believe. It seems FPS is limited because no matter the settings, it won’t exceed 100 FPS. Even with the highest settings, performance drops and CPU usage remains unchanged. At full fan speed, temperatures reach 65°C on both CPU and GPU since I’m not using the side panel. I found some discussions about fixing stuttering by adjusting thread SPU, but those threads aren’t clear—I don’t see the exact instructions or links provided.
you should use the side panel, letting the open side draw a lot of dust into the PC—unless it turns the system into a sauna. That clearly shows a CPU bottleneck, though sometimes 100fps works if the experience feels smooth, which isn't the situation here. A 36CL is acceptable, but CL30 is still preferable. It might cost a bit of money, honestly. Some settings could be in the BIOS, others in the GPU control panel, but I doubt the changes there make much difference. Are you keeping updated drivers and other stuff since you're seeing stutters? What about background apps—GPU drivers, Windows, chipset drivers?
All systems are running smoothly now. I've explored every "fps boost guide" and made registry changes, yet results remain unchanged. DirectX11 and performance mode aren't working at all. DirectX12 offers better FPS but the CPU still hits 100% capacity. I even used a CPU limiter to cap usage, but Fortnite blocks those adjustments due to anti-cheat restrictions. My motherboard is quite old—H310M, likely the least powerful budget LGA 1151 board available. Initially, I thought a used i7 9700K for £70 would help, but performance stayed the same across titles. Now I'm considering a full PC upgrade.
Have you checked the PC’s performance metrics using tools like HWmonitor or HWinfo64? Monitoring its power usage can reveal if your system struggles to boost the CPU effectively. Look at the wattage during load to spot potential bottlenecks. Also, review your RAM specifications and other components.
you have a solid setup with 16gb ram and a decent processor speed. Fortnite typically runs smoothly on this configuration, and the slight RAM usage range you mentioned shouldn’t cause problems. XMP support is active, but it doesn’t seem to be impacting performance noticeably. The throttling at 63w suggests the CPU is under load, possibly due to GPU or other factors.
The PSU you have is a mid-range option; a lower-end model might struggle with sustained overclocking or high loads, especially if your GPU isn’t drawing full power. Your motherboard appears to be adequate for the specs, though an i7 9700 would indeed face VRM limitations at higher clocks.
Your benchmark results show a significant gap compared to others using similar hardware—RTX 2080 getting 7000 vs your score of around 3000. This could point to CPU bottlenecks or inefficient power delivery. Consider checking your GPU’s power consumption and ensuring the PSU can handle peak loads. If you’re aiming for higher performance, upgrading the RAM or switching to a more robust PSU might help.
I don't know, it's possible but it's also possible it won't draw more than 65 during gaming, does it have orange label? more or less, have you tried benchmarking with lowered GPU power? how are you lowering it, with MSI Afterburner or similar? try with like super lowered power draw, even 50% if you can with the Unigine Heaven, also try High and 2xAA in settings.
