The i7-4790 works with your OptiPlex setup. Dell typically doesn’t provide detailed CPU specifications in their guides, often just mentioning Core i3/i5/i7 without confirming exact models. Even when they do list compatible options, it’s not always clear which ones are valid. The Dell Precision T3500 manual, for instance, excludes Xeon X56xx CPUs from its compatibility list. But after a BIOS update later in the T3500’s lifecycle, those CPUs received full support, despite no mention in the original documentation.
It's frustrating dealing with trial and error or Dell's confusing tech support site. They seem to improve with newer models, especially for my Dell Precision, where CPU support is now clearly listed.
