Discussing motherboard standoffs and their impact on performance
Case : NZXT 340S Elite MOBO : MSI 450-A PRO MAX I'm facing problems with all the screws, some fit easily while others keep slipping. The motherboard had just one screw in a bag and there was a note about certain markers on my board that point to some standoffs I should be cautious about. I checked the manual online at https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/...own-manual because my case came with a poor-looking instruction sheet. In the image below, I highlighted the area where my case has a standoff.
ATX boards feature a 3x3 arrangement for spacing. They line up neatly both horizontally and vertically. Occasionally, certain boards skip the top row, though this is more common on X570 models and some Intel Z boards. If a screw keeps going in without stopping, the size might be incorrect. Thickness can vary between units. When you don’t have matching screws from an older PC, either purchase new ones online or leave one out temporarily. It’s generally fine to omit the bottom screw near the USB headers. In some instances, the spacing isn’t precise and the mounting hole is too large. For such situations, use a fastener like Loctite 243 to secure screws temporarily, which can be removed later if needed.
