I recently purchased a laptop and it seems to handle Minecraft smoothly at around 40 to 60 frames per second. Raising the maximum FPS from 60 to 100 improved performance slightly, but further adjustments don’t seem to make a difference. The game runs well on my machine—Arma 3 at about 60 FPS, occasionally dipping to around 50 FPS at 1080p with ultra settings. I’m puzzled why Minecraft can’t maintain a steady 60 FPS. My laptop specs include an i5 7300HQ processor, 8 GB RAM, a GTX1060 graphics card, Windows 10, and a 1080p display.

I refreshed every graphics driver after purchasing the laptop (five days prior) and also upgraded Windows 10.

It appears the GPU is being utilized, taking a long time to adjust settings. The graphics are optimized for speed, render distance is set to 12 segments, clouds are disabled, particles reduced, and fullscreen enabled. All other options remain at their standard levels.

Could be CPU throttling; after playing Minecraft it hit high usage. Are there any adjustments to reduce the load?

You should be able to achieve over 60fps easily. Just run Minecraft and check Task Manager to see what's running. I recently got a new laptop, and while Overwatch was utilizing my GPU, GTA5 automatically switched to the integrated graphics. It’s a quick test you can try.

Laptops generally gain from reduced voltage settings. When gaming, temperatures can fall by 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, and adjusting this is simple.

To find how to do that in the bios, look for instructions or steps listed there. If you need clarification, let me know!

Open Minecraft, enter a game or server, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE, click Task Manager, then tap "More Details" on the bottom left, go to the Performance tab at the top and on the left side, scroll if needed, and you should see "GPU 1 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060" with usage percentage. If your Intel GPU is under load, change its usage to match the 1060.
