Hi there. My friend enjoys Minecraft a lot, but his internet went down recently. He wanted to know if he and his brother could play multiplayer using LAN. I explained that without an internet connection, it might not work. He suggested using an Ethernet cable and asked if that would help. I offered to look into it and let him know what the possibilities were.

They both must connect to a router, enable LAN, and it should function properly.

It should be feasible. Earlier versions allowed playing Minecraft multiplayer using Hamachi, which mimics a LAN setup over the internet. It functions well with a proper local network configuration. After checking, a search confirmed the existence of a guide on setting up a local server in Minecraft.

That’s the only way I ever enjoyed Minecraft. Before Notch ran out of ideas, it was a hit, but then sales dropped like Metallica’s. Pretty cool times!
