OS X tends to be selective about partition names, only attempting to mount them if they recognize the filesystem type.

It's possible by clearing the whole partition table and then connecting it to a Mac. If it supports NTFS formatting, that could have helped.

Most likely to encounter ransomware is unexpected, it works across all systems. Past threats included worms and viruses targeting Linux for Windows machines. Some malware is crafted specifically for Linux routers and modems, though they usually aim at Windows devices more often. Devices using modems or routers are often hit via a Windows web browser. On Windows, avoid clicking suspicious links—use adblock and noscript to stay safe.

I’ve tried those settings already and understand what to avoid. I wanted to learn how Linux and Windows function on the same hard drive. I’m still getting familiar with the operating systems and just want to explore them.

Disable fast boot settings in BIOS. In the Disk Manager, turn off automatic mounting for the Windows partition and you shouldn't encounter any issues.

Modify the Linux /etc/fstab configuration and set the Windows partition as read-only.
