Hi everyone, I’m trying to purchase a powerline network adapter since I can’t connect my router to my computer via Ethernet cable. I’m wondering what speed the adapter should actually have. Right now I get about 50Mbps download, and I’m hoping it will increase to around 100Mbps once the lines are upgraded in my area. I’ve seen adapters ranging from 2000Mbps up to 500Mbps, like the one at OfficeWorks, but it seems unnecessary for my current needs. My main concerns are performance when working from home with a virtual machine and gaming. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Be mindful of the bandwidth specified for powerline adapters—they often advertise 1500Mbps, but only utilize 100Mbps Ethernet ports. For instance, the AV600 requires 100Mbps ports, meaning you'll reach the limit at 100Mbps even if TP-Link claims higher speeds. On that page, it’s better to choose the Netgear PL1000 instead of investing more in the AV2000 when both are limited by 1Gbps ports.

Thanks for the feedback. I realized there might have been an oversight in what I was considering.

Consider exploring MoCA instead of Powerline networking if it's accessible in Australia. It usually provides better stability and higher bandwidth compared to Powerline.

Additionally, the claimed speed is only accurate under perfect circumstances. Under typical settings, you can expect about half of those speeds when conditions are reasonable (such as distance and interference).

It makes sense when you think about linking several 100Mbps devices together, but it doesn’t work as intended. That’s confusing.
