I installed my 7950x in an Asus Crosshair X670E GENE with a Noctua NH-D15S fan. When I pressed the retention screws with springs, the system showed strange instability and wouldn’t boot properly—only some RGB lights appeared on the board. I checked the power cables, re-seated the CPU and PSU, but nothing changed much until I removed the fin stack and placed it on top as a thermal pad. It worked! After that, everything was stable again. I added a few cold boots between devices and connected the cooler gently. The next morning it failed once more—so I unscrewed the lowest retention screw completely. Now the system is working fine. I read about CPU problems on Reddit, updated the BIOS, and lowered the idle temperature by 20°C with ECC enabled (from 55°C to 35°C). Hope this helps you solve your issue! Good luck!

Note: Pressure sensitivity is a common issue with LGA CPUs, impacting all of them.

Yep... pins work better because they keep making contact even with minor mounting issues. Usually a cooler just needs a light touch, but water coolers are harder to handle since fingers can't reach them easily. This often leads people to tighten things too much, which isn’t ideal. Your comment might be useful for others and could help them adjust the pressure slightly instead of forcing it.

I've learned about this problem with some coolers that don't have much strain control. It was unexpected that AMD/Noctua faced this issue. I'm thinking about using a mounting bracket to help spread and reduce pressure. That's why I shared my experience—I encountered strange problems and spent about two days troubleshooting before finding the solution.
