Crash.evtx Details: Hardware Specs – MOBO Asus Prime Z790-A
CPU: Intel i5-13600K
GPU: Nvidia (MSI) GeForce RTX 3080
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32Gb (2x16) at 5200mt/s
Power Supply: Corsair RM 850x 80+ gold 1 M.2 SSD + 1 HDD
OS: Windows 10 (latest version as of Jan 6 2023)
Originally functional for about a month without problems. Recently, the system has shown random black screens and occasional boot loops. When it freezes, the GPU-connected monitor shuts off first, then the CPU-connected one, after which the display may briefly play video before freezing and turning black. The PC attempts to restart automatically but fails.
The issue appears irregular—sometimes during gaming, other times while streaming. It can happen at any time, sometimes weeks apart or multiple times daily. Restarting usually restores it, but now it keeps failing after several power cycles.
Traveling for holidays increased the frequency of problems. Reseating storage drives didn’t help. Checked power connectors carefully—none loose. Reseated GPU and ran stress tests via FurMark (peak 77°C for 10 minutes) without crashes, but purple artifacts appeared on the desktop and system behavior changed afterward. XMP profile was enabled but later disabled.
Power supply works with and without a 1500VA UPS. RAM was replaced. EDIT: A crash event log was reviewed; messages were unclear but potentially informative. EDIT 2: After further troubleshooting, the PC no longer boots at all. Crash.evtx – Edited Jan 7, 2023 by Hamdotca (added details)
Have you removed the monitor from the iGPU and attempted to run without using the dedicated graphics card? You might not need to connect the monitor to the motherboard’s graphics ports if your GPU can manage multiple displays. *EDIT* I’ve noticed graphics issues causing driver crashes or resets when using a docked display, especially with my Razer Blade 15. Turning off Intel Graphics in Device Manager helped resolve those problems. This setup isn’t identical, but it could be worth trying.
If resolving the problems works, you might get a DisplayPort to HDMI converter at a reasonable cost for secondary screens.
