Hi there! I have a query about my PC setup from about three years ago. As a computer science student, I spend a lot of time coding, editing videos, 3D modeling, and gaming. My current configuration includes an Intel i7 7700K overclocked to 4.6GHz, an Evo 220 cooler on an ASUS Z270-A motherboard, Crucial ballistix DDR4 2400, a 16GB 8GB RAM stick, a GTX 1060 overclocked to its limit, and a 550W EVGA PSU. I’m planning some upgrades before a full rebuild, aiming for maximum performance without overspending. My main concerns are boosting speed affordably—should I focus on RAM, cooling, or CPU overclocking? Also, could the RAM be limiting my CPU performance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
You have solid hardware. The software you run is mostly fine. Programs such as Premiere Pro, Resolve, Vegas, etc., could gain a lot from improved graphics cards.
Great idea about cooling, definitely cooler. Delaying the sale might complicate things, as the main issue is limited channel memory and a weak GPU. Pushing the CPU more won’t make much difference.
Single channel RAM must differ by no more than 5%. For gaming the impact is minimal. See the links for details.
