Discussing how to swap out a motherboard.
Hey there, I'm thinking about swapping my MSI Z370-A Pro board for an MSI MEG Z390 ACE. I want to know the best way to prepare the motherboard before putting it in the case. Should I just drop it in without any setup, or should I install some components first? If I do that, what should I place on the board before screwing it into the case? I'm aiming for better cable organization this time instead of a messy tangle. Let me know!
Everything looks fine, mobos are generally well-protected inside their cases, and since there are no moving parts, the risk of damage is minimal. I’m confident they’ll handle a DOA situation properly.
HDD has a whole different setup, with many moving components inside, which makes it quite delicate. It’s no surprise it can become unstable if dropped. With a motherboard, there isn’t that risk—even in the worst case, it should still function properly.
With motherboards, damage often shows up as obvious physical issues like cracks or loose PCI-E slots. Some users report removing the entire slot if it’s not properly secured, especially with powerful graphics cards.
The board which you have is top tier class, they have reinforced pcie slots, you would probably need to actually lean on the card and push it quite hard to damage the slot. Not necessary, it may have damaged components such as capacitors which you most likely not gonna see that is damaged but chances with that kind of board are very small. Like mentioned before it’s top tier mobo so I would expect that quality control will be better than with cheaper boards
