Discussing high memory consumption during gameplay.
Hey there! I have a query about RAM consumption while gaming. I recently assembled my new system with the specs you shared, and I observed that RAM usage, not VRAM, was consistently high during gaming at 1080p Ultra in titles like Shadow of The Tomb Raider and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. For instance, in Shadow of The Tomb Raider, RAM usage started at 10 GB and climbed to 16 GB after about 30 minutes, while performance stayed great. VRAM usage remained within limits. In Jedi Fallen Order, RAM usage also rose after 30 minutes but at a slower pace compared to Tomb Raider. Is this typical behavior? I’ve updated Windows, drivers, and BIOS, adjusted CPU settings in the BIOS but not RAM, and ran a malware scan with Malwarebytes—no threats found. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Justin.
I appreciate the support and details you provided. It was really surprising to notice my RAM usage spike in Tomb Raider after just 30 minutes with no other applications running. I was worried about my graphics card or memory problems. Could others experience similar increases in RAM during gaming? And did the suggested fixes actually resolve the issue?
No one questioned the method consuming RAM. Attributing it to Windows is simple, but increasing memory usage isn't something to accept. Windows tends to utilize RAM for performance reasons, mainly to accelerate system tasks. However, persistent memory consumption without reduction suggests a potential leak in an application or driver. If the game process is responsible, pointing the blame at Windows won't help—contact the game's development team for assistance. Otherwise, review my previous guide to help identify the cause of your RAM drain.
