Consider Intel default MMO settings off or on. It’s generally safer to leave them off, as it helps maintain stable temperatures. You mentioned knowing the risks of overclocking and the performance differences between the two scenarios. Just be sure to monitor temps closely.

The 14th and 13th Gen i7/i9 models experienced performance drops. The 13th Gen i5 appears unaffected, provided you keep the latest BIOS updates on your motherboard. Regarding "IT," if you mean Intel Turbo Boost (ITB), it should be turned on for optimal speed. If your system runs smoother in Cinebench without ITB enabled, it’s likely overheating and throttling when it’s active. I recommend keeping ITB enabled and using the Intel Performance Profile rather than the Extreme Profile unless your BIOS defaults to Extreme. Re-testing Cinebench results may help confirm improvements.

Up to now, the standard setting aimed to keep the board adhering to requirements, as it was thought that motherboards were overloading CPUs and these profiles offered a solution. Occasionally, default profiles can be quite demanding, even when disabled. It was discovered that manual adjustments can turn off protections, despite a profile being active. The recent microcode improvements should be implemented alongside the newest BIOS, though the exact process remains unclear. For details, refer to Intel's documentation: https://community.intel.com/t5/Mobile-an...-p/1633442. There’s also a substantial discussion on Reddit about the topic.

I’ve got the newest bios info, but the only choice is performance mode. Why keep Intel’s default on when it’s causing thermal throttling? I mainly play battle royale games.

You don’t have to enable Intel’s profiles if you prefer manual adjustments. The default settings Intel suggests for 13th and 14th Gen chips are ideal. If the Performance profile still causes overheating, it usually points to a cooling problem since that profile isn’t as intense thermally. When you’re using custom settings and maintaining stable temperatures, stick with your preferred configuration.

Using tools such as hwinfo lets you see most of the configuration details for a profile and contrast them with the original settings. I noted earlier that it's common for Intel profiles to be more demanding, though this varies by board and BIOS.
