I enjoy my FTTH 1.5Gb internet and my family even more because there’s no lag. I’m interested in handling the network using tools like pfSense or UniFi Dream Machine to manage and possibly filter incoming internet traffic, especially since my kids are getting older. I don’t want to skip the ONT, as it’s built into my ISP router (HH3000). I’ve tried bypassing the ONT and splitting IPTV, setting up an EdgeRouter Lite, switches, VLANs, and more—it was really frustrating. When I wasn’t home, troubleshooting became difficult, so I gave up and returned to the standard configuration. I’m hoping for a clear view of the over 30 devices connected and maybe some filtering options. What setup would you suggest? I assume my layout is ONT → HH3000 → DMZ → Pfsense/UnFi device → 16-port switches/APs → connect everything else. I suspect the issue is that my HH3000 only supports gigabit ports, so a third of my internet speed might be lost when routed through the Pfsense/UnFi device. *Bonus: I’d love to know if we can solve this with what I already have!* I have an old QNAP 670pro with unRaid, an idle EdgeRouter Lite, a Windows PC with a dual NIC, and some 5/8 port switches. I’ve also experimented with GlassWire based on Linus’s promotions. Essentially, what’s the most affordable way to get Pfsense running with a 1.5Gb connection? Any advice would be really helpful!
